With 4 campuses, 12 faculties, 41,000 students and a teaching staff of more than 1,400, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore is Europe's largest private university. Founded in Milan in 1921 by Father Agostino Gemelli, the University also has campuses in Rome, Brescia and Piacenza-Cremona. Just a few figures illustrate the breadth and depth of the University's core curriculum, in both humanities and sciences: 41 three-year degree programmes, 37 two years graduate programmes, 6 intensive-study degree programmes, 53 specialization schools, almost 100 master degree programmes and 7 graduate schools. Research activity draws on 51 institutes, 24 departments and 72 research centres, plus 5 integrated centres.  The Medical School provides healthcare at the Policlinico Universitario “A. Gemelli” in Rome, with 1400 beds and a turnover of 70.000 patients annually, provided with all clinical specialties. The activities are articulated in research, training and healthcare. As well as the School of Medicine and related professional schools, the UCSC has its School of Health Management. In addition the Medical School is Provider of courses for ATLS, ERC, ALS, ILS, BLSD, EPLS,  and EPILS and, since 2009, is a member of the Rome Task Force for Civil Defense. The Group committed to the EDEN project, lead by Professor Daniele Gui, collaborates with the Biomathematics Laboratory of the Italian National Council of Research (CNR-IASI) on mathematical modelling issues.

Activities in EDEN:

UCSC will update trauma patient models in the framework of WP 33 “New Tools Innovation and Maturity Development”, it will provide operational experience for the medical demonstration methodology in WP 51 “Scenarios elaboration and demo preparation”, it will participate in the tools survey and possible simulation of chemical intoxication in WP 52 “Tools integration and EDEN Store customisation for multi-C demo” and it will participate in the pre-demo tabletop exercises in WP 54 “Demonstration Implementation”. It will also contribute to WP 42 “Food Demo Simulation”, WP 53 “Demonstration Animation” and  WP 65 “Integrated Large Scale RN Demonstrator and Evaluation”.

Since April 2014 UCSC is the leader of the WP80 which focuses on ethical, societal and legal aspects of CBRNE security, and which includes the project ethical monitoring.
